BFA Graduating Senior Exhibition

Tonight, from 5:00-7:00, will be the opening reception for the 2009 Graduating seniors in our BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) program.  The BFA is a competitive professional degree in Fine Arts and students who are admitted after a rigorous portfolio review spend considerable time focusing on a particular discipline.  The seniors who are graduating this year with majors in Graphic Design are Adam Breeden, Kate Hentrup, Kristy Ho, Laurel Streible, Nate Stormer, Pascalle Ballard.  Our painter this year is Samantha Deitz, Ben Hammond is exhibitng his ceramic work, and our drawing major is Annie McCollum.  It's a very strong collection of work that also includes glass, clothing design, sculpture, and photography.

Since the opening overlaps the evening drawing class, our critique will begin at about 6:40.

  1. The show was put together very nicely and everyones work looked great. Some of my favorites were Bens, Annies, and Samanthas work. I like the intention of combining an old, rusty industrial look with clay and I think Ben executed it quite well. I love the scale of Annies work and her use of color. I like that she included actual feathers and snakeskin as well. Samanthas work is very creative and I really like that she leaves some of the drawing lines behind. I

  2. All the work was incredible! Annie's eagle was amazing. I had the opportunity to witness some of Ben's and Kristy's processes and development of their pieces in the ceramics studio this semester and they are just flawless at executing them. Kate's photography and layout designs were striking and elegant. There is way more I could pick out individually about each artist, but it is definitely worth checking out for yourself!

  3. I really wish that I could've attended this. It sounds like I could've really learned a lot, considering that I'm leaning towards minoring in Graphic Design.

  8. The BFA show was great. The pieces were all so different but very interesting. My personal favorites were Annie's. Her drawings are always so precise and her use of color was very well done. I also really enjoyed the glass pieces. I loved watching the video on how she made her pieces. Very impressive.

  10. I have to say that I love the direction Ben's work has taken for this show. I really enjoy the use of clay, which to me is very fluid and organic, being used to portray metallic objects which often tend to be rigid and brittle.
