Dirt Bags: The Open House

On Friday, April 24, from 5:00 - 8:00 there will be a Fine Arts Open House centered in the Ceramics area, KV035.  The student group known as the "Dirt Bags" is serving as hosts and hostesses for the event. Of course the entire Fine Arts facility will be involved, which means that we need to dress up the studios and hallways with some of your drawings.  Please bring in a couple of your best pieces so that we can get them installed on Thursday, and so I can get labels made so that the visitors will know who did what.  If you could give me a slip of paper with the titles and media of the pieces that would help a lot.  If any one has a little time on Thursday afternoon to help clean up and install artwork, that would be much appreciated also.

The festivities will include yummies, live music by a jazz ensemble, acoustic guitarist, and a remarkable violinist.  Tours of facilities will allow visitors to see the beautiful and compelling work created by the students in our programs.   PLEASE BRING A FEW OF YOUR BEST PIECE IN BY THURSDAY.

PARKING FOR THE OPEN HOUSE IS FREE FOR GUESTS DURING THE EVENT.

  1. This sounds awesome but I unfortunately, yet again, must work on Friday night. It seems every time there's some kind of art event I have to work. I'm sure it will be an awesome event.

  3. Do all of the pieces have to be framed? I have a couple of pieces that I would like to use but they are not framed.

  5. Work does not have to be framed. If work is framed we'll likely place them on easels, otherwise we'll be tacking to the walls.

  6. Brian, where can people that aren't students park for this? Normally I come in from the ground floor and not the 1st floor for my computer class and it would be easiest for my husband to meet me there. Can he park back there with no problem. It looks like he'll meet me there.

And you didn't mention here, but we talked in our class today about bringing our final projects to work on while we're there. I'm bringing mine and I believe Allison is bringing hers.

  7. I'm definitely going to bring my project with me. I want to get as much of it done as possible before Monday. I just hope I figure out exactly what I want to do, I'm still having trouble deciding.

  10. I added a note about parking, so please invite any nonstudent friends to stop by. Yes, you are all welcome to come in and work during the open house if it won't bother you having folks strolling through the studio and watching and asking you what you're doing.

  11. We had more fun at this Brian! Allison and I brought our projects with and spent some time on them while the show was going on. And our friend Beth was there too.

My husband and kids came with and brought a friend with too. Even the kids said they had fun and enjoyed it.

If you didn't make it this year make a point of going to the next one. Some cool art and it gave me lots of ideas for upper level classes.

I just took a few pictures, but here's the link to them. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f123/daughter_liberty/art/ius%20open%20house%2009/

  16. I was wanting to go, but by time I remembered it, it was too late. :( How many people showed up? Were there as many as you all expected?

  17. It was quite a crowd. I think quite a few were family and friends of the artists. The best part of the show for me was seeing what students were doing in the different disciplines. It was interesting to see the same names and the compare their paintings, ceramics, drawings, and prints.

  22. I wish that I could have come on Friday to the Open House. I heard it was wonderful though and I have seen some of the pieces while walking the halls of the KV.

  23. I was told that there were close to 500 people who attended! I hope that this is something we can do every year, and hopefully it will be just as successful as this year's open house.
