Thursday Night Drawing Group

Here are a few responses to the ice-storm drapery still-life. Click to enlarge.
Slightly edited...

We'll be looking at these drawings on Tuesday evening (No we won't, the weather outside is frightful!), so any extra time you can put into them between now and then (Thursday since the 'still-life' is still hanging.) would be good. There were some very strong pieces cooking this evening (last Thursday) so we'll see where they finish in a few (more) days; that's the weekend (and first part of the week) assignment.

  1. I have to ask. Are you going to post a picture when you uncover these?

  2. I'm not sure what you're asking, Connie. I will probably post some of the drawings from this exercise as I thought there were some very strong images developing on thursday evening. Drawing drapery can be a very challenging subject because it requires a focused process and vision, that's why I decided to leave it up beyond class time.

  3. OK, I'm all confused. I thought that was part of a presentation of some sort. I didn't know they were trying to draw the draperies.

    I'll toddle off now. ;)

  4. Interesting, I was on a show while back in the 90's on cable access called ideas & images. Actually got paid for it too.

  5. I couldn't even get into the building on Sunday for studio time. I'll try again Monday afternoon.

  6. That's OK, Connie. Yes, that 'still-life' is a bunch of fabric that is attached to the wall in the drawing studio, there are box forms under and on top of the material. The evening drawing class is using that as a subject for a drawing.

  8. Well so much for the discussion on thursday. Fortunately I was able to get in on wed. and work on my drawing. Since then, I have been sitting here in my powerless home looking out at the ice covered branches and just decided to draw. All of my grandaughters friends think that it is great. But then what do they know?

  9. You're right, Sue, what do they know? I remember back when I was a grandson, this kind of weather would have been too much fun, and no school on top of it. Now that I'm a grandparent, my worry spectrum has grown much wider. Hope you got some interesting drawings out of it.

  10. Are these finished yet? When will we get to see them?

  11. They did get to a finished place but not to the finished place that a few more hours would have gotten us to. The ice storm robbed us of that adventure. I'll check with my class this evening to see if any of them have their drapery drawing with them and will try to get a few posted for everyone to see.

  12. Those turned out really cool! What's amazing is they were all looking at the same thing and they all came up with a unique and individual creation. Some of them look to be almost shear while others look more literal.

    I'm impressed!

  13. I'm very glad we haven't had to do anything like this yet. Fabric is definitely not something that I'm strong at yet.

  14. Wow! this is the first time I have seen the drawings from the class. Everyone did a great job and I like how all the drawings are a little different. I could sit here trying to match up the drawing to the actual picture.

  15. That is crazy. It kind of reminds me of Silence of the Lambs. You know that scene when the cops arrive at Lector's cell cage to find the cop hanging inside the cell?
